With so much going on in the world right now it feels appropriate that this month’s new moon gives us an opportunity to meditate on how our behavior affects others and vice versa. Whether you are trying to be a more responsible citizen or a better spouse, mother, or friend, this type of self-reflection is healthy and worthwhile. Here, astrologer and meditation guide Danielle Beinstein shares some advice on how to examine and build on your relationships during this key phase in the lunar cycle. XXJKE
“What is life, if not relational? We define ourselves in relation to others, after all. Each relationship contains with it the seeds for our own growth and evolution. It’s through our relationships that we discover ourselves. This new moon in relationship-oriented Libra offers us a moment to think about how we’re showing up with those in our lives. Libra is the scales, forever looking for balance. It’s the sign most concerned with diplomacy and partnership, with making peace. And with Jupiter, planet of expansion newly in Libra as well, the feeling is amplified. The desire to get along is paramount. With Libra, people are going to want to connect.
Relationships provide a mirror. What is being reflected back to us? What and who do we see? It’s easy to blame others, to hold resentment when our needs are not met. But relationships are a two-way street and they require our full participation. Libra is associated with co-dependence, the denying of one’s truth in order to secure the affection of another. But, as Cheryl Strayed has stated: “Real love flows freely in both directions. Don’t waste your time on anything else.” Sometimes we need to create space for others to show up for us. And we do this by addressing and honoring our own needs, by ensuring our own oxygen mask is fastened first.
On this new moon, let’s take a moment to think about how we’re engaging others. Are we giving without receiving? Or vice versa? Where are we in all of this? And if we’re seeking romantic partnership, this is the time to center in your heart and tune into what it is we’re seeking. And maybe more importantly, how we intend to show up once our beloved arrives. Write it out. Get clear. Our hearts are powerful communicators. The question is: Are we listening?”
