We might have fall on our minds right now, but the weather hasn’t exactly caught up to us yet. This casual Greek-inspired dinner party, put together by chef, event designer, and frequent Rip & Tan contributor Annie Campbell, is the perfect right-now theme. The décor and menu are appropriate for hot weather without being too summery to spoil all of our fall fantasies. If you’re hosting an end-of-summer get-together, this would be the perfect theme.
Annie was thinking of Greece’s “crisp white buildings, cascading bougainvillea, and crystal clear blue water” when coming up with the décor for the party. “We did two separate tables instead of our usual long one, which made for a thoughtful seating chart and more intimate conversations” she told us. “And, while I love a plated or family-style meal, the buffet was a nice and casual change, and easier on us as hosts.”
Annie started with white-and-cream runners and cobalt plaid napkins from Heather Taylor Home to instantly establish the theme. Classic white dishware from Restoration Hardware was a nod to Greece’s famous architecture, while matte gold flatware from Town and Country Event Rentals, and minimalist glasses from CB2’s Marta collection, added a glamorous touch. The classic black-and-white rattan bistro chairs also came from Town and Country; they have a certain classic, folk appeal that works in a variety of settings.
To complete the table décor, Annie scattered clipped bougainvillea on the dinner table and added plenty of votive and pillar candles to for a warm, romantic vibe. She enlisted the help of Mary Kenny to do calligraphy on the simple place cards and with that, the table was done. On the bar, Annie put together a simple green-and-white floral arrangement in one of our Farmhouse Pottery vessels. Adding candles and flowers to the drinks station is always a nice touch!
